GRAND ETHIOPIAN STREET IFTAR 2023
The 3rd Grand Street Iftar (breaking fast ceremony) was held today, the 17th of Ramadan 1444 or 8th of April 2023 in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia.
At the opening ceremony, Qari Abbas Hadi, who finished second place representing Ethiopia in the 26th international Quran competition held in Dubai, read a beautiful verses from Quran.
At the event, the Federal and Addis Ababa Majlis Board (Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council) heads, ambassadors and many delegates were present. The focus of this year’s street iftar was in “Breaking fast ceremony (Iftar) with our people” targeting in helping people affected by the recent war, drought, and global inflation. The leaders repeated the slogan to adopt the forefathers’ “Najashi” – King of Habasha’s attitude towards extending a helping hand towards people of need.
The capital of Ethiopia celebrated what’s believed to be among one of the biggest streets Iftar in the world for the 3rd time in a row.
In the ceremony, Qari Abbas Hadi has been awarded a certificate of recognition by Sheikh Haji Ibrahim Tufa and Addis Ababa Islamic Affairs High Council President Sheikh Sultan Aman.
